WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump has claimed that he is the most followed and influential personality on TikTok, saying global pop star Taylor Swift ranks far behind him on the platform.
Speaking during a recent White House media briefing, Trump told reporters that new figures released two days earlier showed he was ranked first on TikTok. “Do you know who is number one on TikTok? Trump – that’s me. I’m number one. Taylor Swift is number 11. I’m ahead by a very large margin,” he said.
However, Trump’s claim is not supported by publicly available TikTok data. As of 7 July, Trump’s official TikTok account had around 16.6 million followers, while his videos had received approximately 121.8 million likes. By comparison, Taylor Swift had around 33.5 million followers, with her relatively smaller number of videos attracting more than 274 million likes.
Publicly available figures also show that neither Trump nor Taylor Swift operates the platform’s most-followed account. Among TikTok’s leading creators are Khaby Lame, Charli D’Amelio and MrBeast, each of whom has significantly more followers than both Trump and Taylor Swift. The remarks have sparked discussion on social media, where users compared the president’s statement with publicly available platform statistics.
