BEIJING: US President Donald Trump said it was an honour to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping, adding that he always described him as a great leader.
Speaking during delegation-level talks, Trump said relations between the two countries had always remained positive and that both sides had worked together to resolve challenges whenever they arose. He said many people were unaware of how quickly issues between the two nations had been settled in the past.
He added that there was strong global anticipation surrounding the ongoing discussions and expressed confidence that US-China relations would improve further. Trump described his relationship with Xi as consistently strong.
The US president said the historic summit would primarily focus on bilateral trade, with both countries aiming to build stable and long-term ties for the coming decades.
Trump also noted that he had travelled to China accompanied by some of the world’s leading business figures, signalling a push to strengthen economic cooperation between the two global powers.
