WASHINGTON: US Joint Chiefs of Staff chairman Dan Caine has said that any decision regarding a renewed war with Iran is not within his authority, describing it as “above my pay grade” amid ongoing regional tensions.
Speaking on the current situation, General Caine said that what is unfolding at the moment should be viewed as a low-level conflict rather than a full-scale war. He suggested that Iran’s recent activities appear limited and cautious, particularly in the southern region, where it is reportedly attempting to exert influence through indirect means.
He further stated that Iran’s military command and control structure has been significantly weakened, claiming that it is currently focused more on internal stability and survival than coordinated external operations.
The remarks come at a time of heightened uncertainty in the Middle East, where tensions between Iran and the United States have fluctuated, but no formal escalation into full-scale conflict has been confirmed. Analysts see such statements as reflecting continued strategic ambiguity in US military and political messaging.
