MEHAR: A woman from Ayaz Colony, Mehar, has appealed to the authorities for protection and legal assistance, alleging that she was subjected to domestic abuse and threats by her husband and his relatives.
Zaira, daughter of Ashiq Khaskheli, appeared at the National Press Club Mehar with her mother, Gulzar Khatoon, where she described her six-year marriage to Rashid Jamali, a resident of Mirzo Jamali village near Choudagi. The couple have two children.
Zaira alleged that her husband kept her confined to the house, subjected her to physical abuse and prevented her from meeting her parents. She said she endured the situation for years in the hope that their circumstances would improve.
She further alleged that her husband pressured her to engage in activities she considered unacceptable. After she refused, he allegedly expelled her from their home and left her at her parents’ house, taking their two sons with him.
She said she was not even allowed to collect her clothes and personal belongings. Zaira also rejected allegations that she and her parents had taken gold, cash or other valuables from the household, describing the accusations as false.
She said she had recorded her statement before the SHO of Mehar but claimed that the police had not provided her with relief. She also said she had approached the SSP Dadu but had yet to receive what she described as justice.
Zaira said she had approached the court seeking a divorce after what she described as prolonged mistreatment. She alleged that her husband and his relatives had threatened to harm her and her parents, and claimed that he had on several occasions approached their homes while armed.
She appealed to the authorities to ensure her safety, provide protection to her parents and facilitate her legal case for divorce. She also warned that her husband and his relatives should be held responsible if she or her parents suffered any harm or property loss.
