MEHAR: Writers, poets and journalists staged a protest in Mehar against what they described as attempts to undermine the unity of Sindh and divide the province.
The demonstration was held on the central call of the Sindhi Adabi Sangat, with members of its branches in Mehar, Radhan, Thariri Mohabbat and Sobho Khan Magsi taking part.
Led by Dr Azad Qazi, Sarmad Brohi, Qazi Lutfullah Mahesar, Azad Anwar Kandhro, Tahir Mahzun, Nadeem Brohi, Aajiz Aashiq Taniyo and other writers and intellectuals, the protesters marched for about three kilometres from Mehar City Gate to the National Press Club, where they staged a sit-in.
The protesters chanted slogans against what they called conspiracies to weaken Sindh’s unity and attempts to divide the province.
The writers and intellectuals said they rejected what they described as federal government moves concerning the status and unity of Sindh. They insisted that Sindh was a single province and should remain so.
They called on the government to stop what they described as “conspiracies and fabricated statements” aimed at creating divisions in the province. The protesters warned that if efforts to divide Sindh continued, they would launch a wider protest movement.
