SUKKUR: A massive pedestrian procession of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) departed from Sukkur to Gadhi Khuda Bakhsh to mark the 18th death anniversary of the party’s late chairperson, Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto.
The march is being led by Sukkur Mayor and Sindh Government spokesperson, Barrister Arslan Islam Sheikh, along with the party’s Information Secretary, while a large number of party workers are participating with enthusiasm.
The march, passing through several towns and villages, is scheduled to reach Gadhi Khuda Bakhsh on 27 December, where participants will join commemorative events to pay tribute to Benazir Bhutto’s enduring sacrifices. Marchers carried PPP flags and raised slogans reaffirming their commitment to democracy, public rights, and the vision of the party’s martyred leadership.
Speaking to the media, Barrister Arslan Islam Sheikh described the procession as a “caravan of democracy,” underlining that even after 18 years, Benazir Bhutto’s sacrifices remain alive in the hearts of the people.
He said attempts by authoritarian regimes to disrupt the democratic journey through intimidation and terrorism had failed, and that the PPP continues to advance its mission of serving the poor, promoting national stability, and strengthening democratic governance.
Sheikh emphasized that Benazir Bhutto laid down her life for the protection of democracy, and the ongoing public support demonstrates that her struggle and vision remain undiminished. He added that the PPP will continue to uphold the banner of public service and democracy, carrying forward her legacy for generations to come.
