DADU: Employees of the Gorakh Hill Station Authority continued their protest for a second consecutive day on Tuesday, blocking the Gorakh Road after a long march on foot to demand payment of salaries they say have been withheld for the past two years.
The protesters marched from Gorakh Hill Station and staged a sit-in at the Suri picket, bringing traffic to a halt for several hours and causing significant inconvenience to commuters travelling along the route.
Speaking to reporters at the site, protest leaders Khaliq Jamani, Zulfiqar Brahmani and Farooq Soomro said employees had received no salaries for two years, without any explanation. The prolonged non-payment, they said, had pushed many families into acute financial distress.
“Some of our colleagues are facing hunger and cannot meet basic household expenses,” they said, adding that despite the hardship, employees had continued to perform their official duties.
The protesters appealed to Sindh’s minister for tourism and culture and chairman of the Gorakh Hill Station Authority, Zulfiqar Shah, as well as chief minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, to take immediate notice of the situation and order the release of long-overdue salaries.
They warned that if their demands were not addressed promptly, the protest would be intensified in the coming days, raising the prospect of further disruption in the area.
