KARACHI: A historic initiative aimed at empowering women in Orangi Town was officially launched on Monday, with Federal Minister of State for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony, Khail Das Kohistani, as the chief guest.
The project, titled She Rides, is organised under the FMG Empowerment Hub to provide women and students in Orangi Town with professional motorcycle training and greater mobility. The program aims to create empowered women and a stronger Pakistan by offering practical training in motorcycle handling, traffic rules, road safety, responsible driving and emergency response.
The initiative received full support from the Commissioner Karachi, Deputy Commissioner West, TMC Orangi and the Hunarmand Beti, Hunarmand Pakistan initiative. Speaking at the ceremony, Khail Das Kohistani praised the efforts of FMG Empowerment Hub, describing the project as a gift to the daughters of Orangi Town from the federal government.
Khail Das Kohistani announced the donation of three motorcycles for the programme and said the initiative aligned with the vision of the leadership of Pakistan Muslim League (N). During the event, awards were presented to individuals and outstanding students for their notable contributions.
Fahim Ahmed (Mr Green), Rubina Shaheen, Dr Banesh, and Saad were honoured with gold medals and certificates for their exceptional social services. Students of Government Girls School achieving A-1 grades received commendation certificates, while teachers were awarded honorary She Rides pins. Other FMG team members were also recognised for their dedication.
The event was hosted by FMG founders and CEOs Fahim Ahmed (Mr Green) and Rubina Shaheen. Prominent personality Princess Sindh Ms Noshaba Naz highlighted the importance of women’s autonomy and their positive role in society. Fahim Ahmed expressed gratitude to all participants and reaffirmed FMG Empowerment Hub’s commitment to continue its work for the welfare of women and youth, irrespective of background or ethnicity.
