SUKKUR: Pakistan People’s Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari paid tribute to Quaid-e-Awam Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto on his birth anniversary, saying Pakistan’s first elected prime minister remained the enduring voice of the country’s dispossessed, oppressed and marginalised masses.
In a statement issued from Sukkur, the PPP chairman said Quaid-e-Awam had given dignity, identity and hope to the people of Pakistan by introducing the revolutionary belief that real power belonged to the people. He said that from the philosophy of Roti, Kapra aur Makaan to the unanimous Constitution of 1973, Shaheed Bhutto had transformed the aspirations of the poor into the agenda of the state.
Bilawal added that the foundations of Pakistan’s invincible defence were also laid by Shaheed Bhutto through the initiation of the country’s atomic programme. He said the martyrdom of Shaheed Bhutto had failed to silence his ideas, which continued to inspire generations to stand firm against tyranny and injustice. He said that from the gallows, Shaheed Bhutto had gifted Pakistan an eternal legacy of courage, sovereignty and hope.
Reaffirming the party’s resolve, the PPP chairman said the Pakistan Peoples Party would continue its democratic struggle in line with the vision of Quaid-e-Awam Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto for a just, inclusive and people-centred Pakistan. He said Shaheed Bhutto lived on in every struggle for rights, every demand for equality and every dream of a compassionate and democratic Pakistan.
