KARACHI: Monem Zafar, Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi, has criticized the Sindh government, led by the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), for failing to deliver development projects in Karachi. Speaking at the inauguration of a model street and reconstruction projects in Block A, UC 8, North Nazimabad Town, Zafar claimed that towns have not received any development funds in the past two and a half years.
“Over the past two and a half years, not a single rupee has been allocated to towns under development funds,” Zafar said. He recalled that former City Nazim Naimatullah Khan had distributed Rs 10 million to each union council in his final budget.
Zafar noted that despite the PPP being in power in Sindh for 17 years, no town in Karachi received development funds. He said that budgets allocated to towns are largely limited to paying salaries. “Towns administered by JI are carrying out construction and development work through limited resources and their own funds. This journey of public service will continue with honesty and integrity,” he said.
The JI leader also highlighted that the local government team has exceeded its authority to deliver services to residents. “Ninety percent of the development work in Block A has been completed, and the remaining work will soon be finished,” he said.
Zafar criticized other government bodies, noting that the town administration has taken on tasks that are the responsibility of the Water and Sewerage Corporation and the Sindh Solid Waste Management Board, which he claimed are not fulfilling their duties.
The inauguration event was attended by North Nazimabad Town Chairman Atif Ali Khan, Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami District Central Syed Wajih Hasan, JI Karachi Information Secretary Zahid Askari, Vice Town Chairman Zia Jamai, and other party officials.
