KARACHI: Chairman of Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui and Federal Minister for Education and Vocational Training, held a key meeting with a delegation from the British Council Pakistan led by Country Head, James Hempson. The meeting was also attended by Federal Education Secretary Nadeem Mehmood, IBCC Chairman Ghulam Ali Mallah, and other senior officials.
The discussions focused on improving Pakistan’s education system, promoting technical education, and expanding international partnerships. The British Council delegation congratulated Dr. Siddiqui on the successful All-Pakistan Inter-Provincial Education Ministers Conference and commended his ongoing reforms in the education sector.
During the meeting, Dr. Siddiqui emphasized the government’s priority to equip youth from underprivileged areas, particularly informal settlements, with modern technical skills. He highlighted plans to integrate institutions in these regions under a structured technical framework, with active support from the British Council.
Hempson briefed the Federal Minister on the British universities’ interest in establishing campuses in Pakistan and introducing online courses. This initiative aims to enable students who cannot study abroad due to financial constraints to access international-standard degrees within Pakistan. Welcoming the initiative, Dr. Siddiqui underlined MQM-P’s long-standing commitment to empowering the common citizen and middle-class youth.
MQM-P leader stated that non-formal education programs and skill development projects would serve as milestones in this mission. The meeting also agreed to improve quality assurance and certification systems in educational institutions in remote and deprived areas to enhance employment opportunities for youth.
