QUETTA: Chief Minister of Balochistan, Mir Sarfraz Bugti, met with a United Nations delegation led by UN Resident Coordinator Mohamed Yahya in Quetta to discuss key issues affecting the province, including human development, public welfare, human rights, and the challenges posed by climate change.
During the meeting, the UN delegation acknowledged the provincial government’s efforts, praising its progressive legislative and policy initiatives. They highlighted programs such as the Youth Skills Development Program and the establishment of the Women Endowment Fund as significant steps toward promoting social inclusion and empowering vulnerable groups in the province.
Speaking at the occasion, Chief Minister Bugti underscored that Balochistan faced ongoing challenges from climate change and terrorism. He said the provincial government had adopted comprehensive and effective measures to tackle these issues, focusing on both prevention and mitigation strategies.
Bugti highlighted the government’s commitment to improving public services, enhancing resilience against environmental threats, and ensuring the safety and welfare of communities across Balochistan.
The discussion also explored avenues for enhanced cooperation between the provincial government and the UN in addressing human development priorities and supporting sustainable initiatives.
Bugti emphasized the importance of partnerships with international organizations to strengthen provincial capacity, promote human rights, and implement programs that benefit youth, women, and other marginalized communities.
The meeting reflected a shared commitment to advancing development goals and addressing the multidimensional challenges facing Balochistan. Both sides agreed that sustained collaboration would be essential in promoting social progress, resilience, and inclusive growth across the province.
