KARACHI: On the instructions of Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, a monitoring and evaluation team from the Planning and Development Department visited the Korangi Causeway Bridge project in Karachi.
The chief minister emphasized that there would be no compromise on quality in public interest projects. He stressed that transparency and timely progress must be ensured in the Rs6.13 billion scheme.
According to his spokesperson, the monitoring team, led by Altaf Hussain Sario, director general of the Monitoring and Evaluation Cell, conducted a detailed inspection of the project and later presented a progress report to the chief minister. The team, working alongside technical experts, reviewed the quality and pace of construction.
Murad Ali Shah directed that all tests be conducted according to international standards. Officials said non-destructive testing had been completed using a Schmidt hammer to assess the strength of the concrete. Detailed measurements of the bridge’s length, width, median, and footpaths were also carried out.
The Korangi Causeway Bridge, with a total length of 1.4 kilometers, is reported to be 96% complete physically, with 78% of financial resources utilized. The chief minister was told that the project is nearing completion and expected to open to the public within a few weeks. He directed that all remaining minor works be completed within three weeks and that the project be fully completed by March 2026.
