DADU: Sindhi nationalist Arbab Bheel was initially denied permission to see the body of his daughter, prompting protests by family members, lawyers and civil society activists before the Dadu prison authorities allowed him to attend the funeral.
Arbab Bheel, a leader of Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz (JSQM) Arisar faction and its acting chairman, was imprisoned at Dadu district jail when the body of his minor daughter, Ganga Bheel, was brought by ambulance from Hyderabad. According to eyewitnesses, prison officials at first began the process of handing over the body to the family but did not allow the jailed father to have a final viewing, triggering anger and distress among relatives.
His sister strongly objected to the decision, questioning how a father could be denied the right to see his child one last time or attend her funeral when the body had been brought to the jail itself. Emotional scenes unfolded inside and outside the prison, with cries and visible grief as the situation grew tense.
As news spread that the body had reached the jail, lawyers, journalists, civil society representatives and members of various social and political groups gathered outside the prison and staged a protest against the administration’s decision. Under mounting pressure, the jail authorities eventually allowed Arbab Bheel to meet his daughter’s body in the prison barracks.
Witnesses said the final moments between father and daughter were deeply heartbreaking, leaving many present in tears. After the final farewell, the body of Ganga Bheel was sent to the family’s ancestral village for burial. Following the incident, questions were raised in some quarters about the conduct and procedures of the jail administration. Repeated attempts were made to obtain the administration’s stance, but until the filing of this report no response was received through phone calls or messages.
