PESHAWAR: Former Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan, Siraj-ul-Haq, criticised the nomination of Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, saying it undermined the sentiments of the Muslim community and highlighted the neglect of Palestine’s struggle in international peace efforts.
Speaking at the central three-day annual gathering of Jamiat Tulba Arabia members at Markaz-e-Islami Peshawar, he said global powers act only in their own interest, noting the millions of Muslims martyred in Afghanistan and Iraq by the United States. He controversially remarked that if Trump were worthy of a Nobel Prize, historical conquerors like Halaku Khan and Genghis Khan should also be considered.
Siraj-ul-Haq stressed that Gaza remains a concern for nearly two billion Muslims and criticised Pakistani rulers for failing to represent the Ummah’s feelings on Palestine. He reaffirmed his commitment to jihad, saying, “I am first a mujahid and then a Pakistani,” and urged society and youth to uphold Islamic values. He emphasised countering Western cultural influences with the teachings of the Quran to build a strong, dignified, and morally upright nation.
The gathering was attended by Jamiat Tulba Arabia chief Maulana Muhammad Afzal, Friends of Palestine head Bilal Asatal, provincial deputy Ameers of Jamaat-e-Islami Maulana Dr. Hidayatullah and Maulana Tasleem Iqbal, and Deputy Qayyim Maulana Hanifullah.
