DADU: A major scandal emerged in Jamshoro after 64,485 wheat bags, worth Rs643.5 million, disappeared from the Bholari godown, prompting arrests and a widening investigation by the Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE).
An Anti-Corruption Department team arrested a food inspector in connection with the alleged embezzlement, while two key suspects, including the district food controller, remain at large, reportedly heading towards Balochistan and Islamabad. Written permission has been sought from the Sindh government for their arrest, and an anti-corruption court granted a five-day physical remand for the arrested official.
Food Inspector Allah Dino Memon was taken into custody and produced before the Special Anti-Corruption Court. Assistant Director of ACE Jamshoro Zeeshan Memon said the court approved a five-day physical remand. Three individuals are implicated in the case: District Food Controller Naveed Tahir, Allah Dino Memon, and Ali Raza Brohi.
Authorities said Memon was arrested in Naushahro Feroze, while Tahir is reportedly hiding in Islamabad and Brohi in Balochistan. The case came to light after Deputy Director Food Qamaruddin Memon reported the missing wheat bags from the Bholari godown to the Secretary Food. The secretary formally notified the chairman of ACE, prompting a formal inquiry and subsequent action.
According to the report, 64,485 wheat bags valued at Rs643,548,000 had vanished. The wheat had been purchased by the food department at Rs10,000 per bag from growers. An FIR has been registered under the Anti-Corruption Act and sections 420, 406, 409, and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code. Further investigation is underway.
