NAWABSHAH: The Asian Institute of Medical Sciences, Hyderabad, hosted the Second International Obesity Conference 2026 at Latif Hall, Peoples University of Medical & Health Sciences (PUMHS), Nawabshah, under the leadership of Professor Dr. Sadiq Memon.
The event brought together prominent medical experts from Pakistan and abroad, including physicians, surgeons, endocrinologists, nutritionists, researchers, and medical students. The conference focused on the rising prevalence of obesity, its causes, health impacts, and modern medical and surgical treatment options.
Speakers stressed that obesity is no longer just a matter of appearance but a serious public health issue linked to diabetes, heart disease, hypertension, stroke, infertility, and other life-threatening conditions. Scientific sessions included lectures and presentations on advanced obesity treatments, bariatric surgery, pharmacological therapies, hormonal influences, nutritional management, physical activity, and lifestyle modifications.
Experts highlighted that a balanced diet, regular exercise, and healthy lifestyle choices remain key in controlling obesity. Participants noted that in Pakistan, unhealthy eating habits, fast food consumption, lack of physical activity, and limited public awareness are major contributors to the growing obesity epidemic.
They urged the government, medical institutions, and educational organizations to collaborate in raising awareness and promoting healthier lifestyles. The conference also underscored the burden on the healthcare system caused by delayed diagnosis and insufficient treatment of obesity.
At the conclusion, the organizers thanked all guest speakers, participants, volunteers, and media representatives, reaffirming their commitment to continuing such academic and scientific initiatives to tackle pressing public health challenges.
