KARACHI: Senior leader of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P), Dr. Farooq Sattar, has publicly demanded the resignations of Sindh’s Chief Minister, the Information Minister, and the Mayor of Karachi. He called on Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari to take action and ensure that the officials step down.
Speaking at a press conference in Karachi alongside Haider Abbas Rizvi, Sattar expressed concern over security arrangements, questioning why the party should rely on Islamabad for protection when local authorities fail to guarantee their safety. “This is not just about security; it is an attempt to divert attention from the Gul Plaza tragedy. This time, we will not let it go unaddressed,” he said.
Sattar made it clear that he would not back down from his demands. He called for a judicial commission to investigate the Gul Plaza incident, even if it meant surrendering their security or facing fabricated legal cases. “We have faced false charges in the past. This time, we are determined to secure justice for the victims of Gul Plaza,” he added.
MQM-P leader further criticized the provincial government for overburdening the city, warning that Karachi risks sinking under the weight of mismanagement. “The government is abandoning Karachi through its actions.
When people are crushed under dumper trucks or children fall into open drains, it sends a clear message that the administration cannot shoulder its responsibilities,” he said. He reiterated his appeal to Bilawal Bhutto to take firm action, urging the Information Minister to establish a judicial commission independently if necessary.
Sattar also said MQM-P seeks dialogue with the PPP leadership to discuss multiple issues affecting Sindh’s citizens, emphasizing that the ongoing aftermath of the Gul Plaza tragedy demands urgent attention. He concluded with a pointed observation about the provincial leadership: “It seems the pressure from our questions and the public is leaving them in a state of panic.”
