KARACHI: Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab inaugurated five newly renovated parks in the Azizabad area of District Central, including Lal Qila Park, at a cost exceeding Rs 687.676 million with the cooperation of the Karachi Development Authority (KDA). The ceremony was attended by Pakistan Peoples Party Karachi Division General Secretary Rauf Nagori, KMC Deputy Parliamentary Leader Dil Muhammad, Jaman Darwan, District General Secretary Shehzad Majid, City Area President, and numerous local residents.

The parks—Lal Qila Park, Chhota Park, Moor Park, Aziz Municipal Park, and a fifth park—cover nearly five acres in total. Mayor Wahab highlighted that the parks were previously neglected and vacant, and their revival demonstrates the city administration’s commitment to providing green and recreational spaces.
Lal Qila Park now features jogging tracks, children’s swings, green areas, fiber-cast RCC seating, modern wooden benches, boundary walls, decorative walls, and mock rock RCC gazebos. Chhota Park has been electrified and landscaped, while Park Three now includes jogging tracks, greenery, and complete lighting for safety. Moor Park has been upgraded with a fountain, selfie point, family areas, LED floodlights, and modern electrification, along with iron gates and garden poles.
The Mayor stated that underground water tanks, piston pumps, and motors have been installed across the parks, while plantation work has been completed with sweet earth, coating, and Dacca grass. Fiberglass dustbins have been placed to maintain cleanliness.
Mayor Wahab emphasized that the city-wide rehabilitation of parks and green areas will continue, providing walking tracks and recreational spaces for mothers, children, senior citizens, and families. He called on citizens to support the KMC and cooperate with park committees to preserve these facilities for future generations.
He also highlighted that 2026 is earmarked as the year for completing development projects across Karachi, including roads, parks, and playgrounds, with full support from PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, the Sindh Chief Minister, and Provincial Minister Nasir Hussain Shah.
Paying tribute to the martyrs of the Gul Plaza tragedy, Mayor Wahab assured that investigations are ongoing, and that the Sindh government has pledged to construct and provide an equal number of shops to affected traders. He appealed to political parties and citizens to work collaboratively for the city’s development, stressing that Karachi’s progress cannot be stopped by any force.
