KARACHI: The Akhuwat Foundation held its annual dinner at the Governor House in Sindh, bringing together prominent figures from across society to support its work in poverty alleviation. The Karachi event focused on announcing new-year pledges and raising funds for the organisation’s welfare programs.

Akhuwat, a non-profit known for providing interest-free loans, aimed the evening at strengthening support for initiatives that help underprivileged people become self-reliant. Speakers highlighted the foundation’s model of dignity-based assistance and community trust.
Founder and chief executive Dr Muhammad Amjad Saqib reflected on Akhuwat’s 25-year journey, saying the organization had empowered thousands of families by enabling access to dignified livelihoods. Danish Aman, head of the Council of Patrons, underlined the foundation’s social impact and called on philanthropists to play a more active role in supporting its mission.
Governor Sindh’s adviser Tariq Mustafa praised Akhuwat’s work, describing it as vital in helping people stand on their own feet. Special prayers were offered for the victims of the Gul Plaza tragedy, alongside proposals to further support individuals affected by similar incidents.
The dinner was attended by actors, industrialists, bureaucrats, journalists and other notable guests, and concluded with a formal meal.
