SUKKUR: The investigation into the 2021 kidnapping of seven-year-old Priya Kumari from Sangrar in Sukkur has entered a new phase, with the Sindh Inspector General of Police, Javed Alam Odho, recommending the formation of a fresh Joint Investigation Team (JIT) to probe the case.
IG Sindh met Priya Kumari’s father, Raju Mal, along with a delegation that included Advocate Kalpana Devi, Dr Dharma Jayasrani and journalist Mahesh Kumar, to discuss the progress of the investigation. He briefed them on the inquiries so far and said he suspected that the girl was in the possession of dacoit Rahib Shar.
“We have formed a committee to investigate and gather evidence, and I will not give you false comfort,” IG Odho told the delegation. He assured them that the case was being revisited and that the investigation would be completed within a month, with findings shared with the family.

The formation of a new JIT is expected to strengthen efforts to recover Priya Kumari and bring the perpetrators to justice. The girl was abducted on 19 August 2021 (10 Muharram), and despite multiple JITs, protests, and over two years of inquiries, she remains missing.
