KARACHI: An Anti-Vehicle Lifting Cell (AVLC) team of Karachi police engaged in a shootout with car-snatching suspects in the Sohrab Goth area, resulting in the arrest of one injured suspect while two accomplices managed to escape.
The encounter occurred near Buraq Petrol Pump within the jurisdiction of Sohrab Goth police station, where the AVLC team was conducting a routine patrol. Police said they signalled a suspicious vehicle to stop, after which the occupants opened fire, prompting a retaliatory response.
According to SSP AVLC Karachi Khalid Mustafa Korai, the arrested suspect, identified as Saddaruddin, son of Ali Gohar, sustained injuries during the exchange of fire. A Honda Civic recovered from the scene had been snatched at gunpoint from a citizen in the Sachal police station area. Police also recovered a 30-bore pistol and ammunition from the suspect.
SSP Korai added that the arrested suspect and his accomplices were involved in multiple car-snatching incidents across the city. The injured suspect was shifted to hospital for treatment, while police launched a search for the absconding accomplices and said further investigation was underway.
