DADU: Protests continued in Dadu over the death of youth Nader Jamali, who was allegedly killed in a police encounter on January 7. On Thursday, Jamali’s family staged a sit-in on the Indus Highway near Makhdoom Bilawal that lasted ten hours, disrupting cargo traffic and drawing widespread attention.
The demonstrators demanded the removal of the police officers allegedly involved in the incident, including the SSP, and called on human rights organizations to intervene, describing the killing as extrajudicial.
Dadu SSP Amir Saud Magsi said alternative routes had been arranged for vehicles and that proceedings under Section 22 AB are underway, with any action to be taken strictly according to court orders.
Police stated that on January 6, a firing incident in Irrigation Colony left a sub-inspector and other personnel injured. Jamali was reportedly wounded in a police encounter the next day and later died in hospital. The family rejected this account, claiming the encounter was staged, and launched continuous protests.
During a Section 22 AB hearing on February 3, police said an angry mob created chaos, prompting the registration of a case on February 4 under the Anti-Terrorism Act against more than 40 people, including two journalists.
The sit-in concluded after 3 a.m. following negotiations between the Dadu Assistant Commissioner and the demonstrators, who were assured that their demands would be taken up.
