The ISPR reported that an intelligence-driven operation in Orakzai District targeted the reported presence of Khawarij terrorists

ISLAMABAD: Security forces killed 24 terrorists belonging to the Indian-backed Fitna al-Khawarij in two separate operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Friday.

The military’s media wing said intelligence-based operations were carried out in the Orakzai and Khyber districts after reports of the terrorists’ presence. “In Orakzai District, an intelligence-based operation was conducted on the reported presence of Khawarij,” the ISPR said. Security forces engaged a terrorist hideout, and after an intense exchange of fire, 14 terrorists were killed.

Another operation in Khyber District neutralized 10 more terrorists following a firefight, the statement added. “Sanitization operations are being conducted to eliminate any other Indian-sponsored Khawarij in the area. Our relentless counterterrorism campaign under Vision Azm-e-Istehkam will continue at full pace to wipe out the menace of foreign-supported terrorism from the country,” the ISPR said.

The operations followed Operation Radd-ul-Fitna 1, during which at least 216 terrorists from Fitna al-Hindustan were killed after coordinated attacks targeting civilians across Balochistan. The ISPR said 36 innocent civilians, including women and children, and 22 security personnel lost their lives during these operations. Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti said terrorists deliberately used civilians as human shields and operated from Afghan soil.

Since the Taliban regained control of Afghanistan in 2021, Pakistan has seen a rise in cross-border terrorist incidents, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, provinces bordering Afghanistan.

ISPR Director General Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said in a press briefing on January 6 that law enforcement agencies conducted 75,175 intelligence-based operations (IBOs) across the country in 2025. Of these, 14,658 were in KP, 58,778 in Balochistan, and 1,739 in the rest of the country.

General Sharif added that 5,397 terrorist incidents were reported nationwide last year. Of these, 3,811 occurred in KP, 1,557 in Balochistan, and 29 in other areas. During counterterror operations in 2025, 2,597 terrorists were killed. Lt Gen Chaudhry said Afghan terrorists were involved in all major attacks and that civilians and soft targets were deliberately targeted.
