An Afghan media outlet cited international researchers warning that the Taliban administration remained fragile and unpredictable, raising doubts over its capacity to govern

KABUL: International experts have raised concerns that Afghanistan, under Taliban rule, could remain a major source of extremism, posing a serious challenge to regional and global security. Analysts warn that the current government’s instability risks fostering the spread of terrorism beyond the country’s borders.
An Afghan publication, Afghanistan International, cited a number of international researchers describing the Taliban administration as fragile and unpredictable. Observers say that without meaningful reform, the government could deepen instability across the region and undermine prospects for peace.
A senior Russian analyst noted that the Taliban’s policies demonstrate unsustainable governance, contributing to growing public unrest. Russian researcher Andrei Syrenko argued that the Taliban have failed to implement fundamental changes, describing the group as “more unreliable than before” despite holding formal power.
Meanwhile, Rajab Safarov, director of the Center for Contemporary Iranian Studies, suggested that the Taliban’s poor political conduct and governance practices make it unlikely that they will maintain long-term control. Safarov warned that the group’s approach risks isolating Afghanistan diplomatically while exacerbating internal tensions.
Experts emphasized that the combination of ideological rigidity, weak institutions, and limited public legitimacy could leave Afghanistan vulnerable to both internal and external pressures. They cautioned that without significant reform and international engagement, the country could continue to be a breeding ground for extremist activity, with consequences for the wider region.
The warnings underline the persistent global concern over Afghanistan’s trajectory under Taliban rule, highlighting the urgent need for strategies to stabilize governance and prevent the resurgence of militant networks that threaten international security.
