NEW YORK: A peaceful assembly was held in New York this week calling for regional stability in Asia, an end to what organizers described as Indian dominance over Bangladesh, and renewed international attention to justice and human rights. The event was jointly organized by the advocacy groups We Are The Peoples and Patriots of Bangladesh.
The gathering brought together activists, lawyers, veterans, and community leaders, reflecting growing concern among sections of the Bangladeshi diaspora and international human rights circles about political violence, minority safety, and accountability in South Asia.
Among those present were Jacob Milton Bolen and Neera, chief coordinators of We Are The Peoples, alongside organizers from Patriots of Bangladesh, including Abdul Kader Mohammad Alim, Jabed Uddin, Md Azmat Ullah, Anwar Hossain, Gazi Dipon, blogger Ruhul Khan, Bulbul Ahmed, Kamrul Khan, Dinaj Chowdhury, and other community figures.
Speaking at the event, Jacob Milton Bolen said allegations of violence against minorities, sexual violence, arson, and political repression across South Asia must be treated with urgency. He called for a transparent and internationally credible investigation into the killing of Shaheed Osman Hadi, arguing that justice in such cases was a global responsibility rather than a purely national matter.
Abdul Kader echoed those concerns, warning that delays risked denying justice altogether. He demanded an immediate, neutral, and independent international inquiry, insisting that no political or external influence should obstruct accountability.
