ISLAMABAD: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian arrived in Pakistan on a one-day official visit at the invitation of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

His aircraft landed at Nur Khan Air Base, where he was received by President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, First Lady Aseefa Bhutto Zardari and Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari were also present at the airbase to welcome the Iranian president.
The visiting president was given a ceremonial escort by Pakistan Air Force fighter jets, while children dressed in traditional attire presented him with bouquets.Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi was also part of the presidential delegation.
Earlier, he had arrived in Islamabad, where he was welcomed by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.Before the president’s arrival, Abbas Araghchi held separate meetings with President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
According to the Iranian news agency, the meetings were also attended by Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Aseefa Bhutto Zardari and Iranian Ambassador Reza Amiri Moghadam.Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Hussain Andrabi said President Pezeshkian would hold meetings with President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif during the visit.
He added that the Iranian leader would also meet Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, the Chairman of the Senate and the Speaker of the National Assembly.This is President Pezeshkian’s second visit to Pakistan since assuming office.During the visit, Pakistan and Iran are expected to hold detailed discussions on trade, energy cooperation, border management and people-to-people ties.
The Foreign Office said both sides would also review progress on the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, exchange views on regional and international developments, and discuss all aspects of bilateral relations.
