ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Cambodia have agreed to strengthen cooperation in the industrial sector, with a particular focus on textiles, following a meeting between senior officials from both countries in Islamabad on Wednesday.
The discussions were held between Haroon Akhtar Khan, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Industries, and Cham Nimul, Cambodia’s Minister for Commerce. Officials described the meeting as a step toward deepening bilateral economic engagement and exploring avenues for mutual investment.
During the talks, Haroon Akhtar Khan highlighted the potential for collaboration in Pakistan’s Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector, particularly through initiatives led by the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority. He emphasized that MSMEs could play a pivotal role in boosting trade, creating employment, and promoting innovation, while partnerships with Cambodia could open new regional markets.
Both sides exchanged views on enhancing industrial partnerships, promoting investment opportunities, and strengthening future economic relations. Officials indicated that the dialogue included exploring joint ventures, technical cooperation, and knowledge-sharing in areas where each country could complement the other’s industrial capabilities.
Observers noted that the agreement signals Pakistan’s intent to diversify its trade relationships in Southeast Asia and leverage regional collaboration to support domestic industrial growth. The officials concluded the meeting with a shared commitment to translate discussions into actionable initiatives that could benefit both countries’ industrial and economic sectors.
