LAKKI MARWAT: Police in Lakki Marwat successfully averted a major terrorist attack after defusing two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) weighing over 20 kilograms, officials said. The devices had been planted along Land Ahmad Khel Road, a public area, with the apparent aim of causing mass casualties and widespread property damage.
Authorities launched an intelligence-based operation under the direction of District Police Officer Nazir Khan after receiving credible information about the threat. The operation, led by SP Investigation Murad Khan and SHO Saddar Qadir Khan with support from the Bomb Disposal Squad, involved cordoning off the area and safely neutralising the explosives, which were confirmed to have been locally assembled.
Police described the successful defusal as a testament to careful planning, coordination, and timely action. Regional Police Officer Sajjad Khan of the Bannu region praised the district team, highlighting the critical role of strong human intelligence in preventing the attack. Inspector General of Police Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Zulfiqar Hameed, also commended the professionalism and vigilance of the officers, noting that enhanced intelligence networks across the province have helped thwart several planned acts of terrorism in recent months.
Authorities reiterated that safeguarding the lives and property of citizens remains their highest priority. The operation in Lakki Marwat, officials said, demonstrated the effectiveness of proactive policing and the importance of timely intelligence in countering potential threats. Security analysts suggested that such interventions not only prevent immediate harm but also serve as a deterrent to future terrorist activities, underscoring the need for sustained vigilance in areas prone to extremist attacks.
The incident has drawn attention to the continued commitment of law enforcement agencies in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to maintain security and stability, particularly in regions historically targeted by militant groups. Officials said they would continue to enhance coordination with local communities to strengthen intelligence networks and respond rapidly to emerging threats.
