BUNNU: A motorcycle-mounted bomb detonated near the main gate of Miryan Police Station on Sunday, killing two civilians—including a child—and injuring 17 others, officials reported. The blast, caused by an improvised explosive device (IED) planted on a parked motorcycle, struck in the morning hours, targeting an area crowded with passersby and nearby residents.

The injured were rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital in Bannu, where medical teams provided emergency care. Hospital sources confirmed that most of the victims were in stable condition, though several remained under observation. Authorities described the explosion as a deliberate attempt by unidentified militants to inflict harm on civilians after failing to strike police personnel directly.

Bannu Police, led by SP Rural Haider Ali and SDPO Rural One Khanan Khan, responded swiftly. Quick Response Force teams, the Bomb Disposal Squad, and Armoured Personnel Carriers secured the area, conducting a thorough sweep to ensure no additional explosives were present. Deputy Inspector General of Police for Bannu Region, Sajjad Khan, visited the hospital, met victims’ families, and expressed condolences, condemning the attack as a “cowardly act of terrorism.” He assured that law enforcement would pursue the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
Officials said investigations were ongoing to identify those responsible, with police teams collecting evidence and reviewing intelligence reports to track the militants behind the attack. Security analysts noted that the incident underscored the continued threat posed by extremist elements in the region and the challenges faced by law enforcement in protecting both civilians and public institutions.
The bombing has heightened concerns among local residents, who have called for strengthened security measures around public facilities and more robust surveillance to prevent similar incidents. Authorities have urged the community to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity, reiterating their commitment to safeguarding lives and maintaining law and order in Bannu.
