KHAIRPUR: Khairpur Medical College held its second convocation on Monday, celebrating the graduation of around 400 students from batches five and six across diverse medical disciplines, including Medicine, Surgery, Neurology, Gynaecology, Paediatrics, and Orthopaedics.

The ceremony marked a milestone in the college’s history, recognizing both academic achievement and the commitment of future doctors to public service. Addressing the graduates, former Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah urged them to serve their homeland with dedication and caution against charging high fees at private hospitals despite modest salary packages.

Shah emphasized the ethical responsibilities of the medical profession, advising young doctors to prioritize accurate diagnosis before treatment and to uphold the principles of patient care. He also highlighted the provincial government’s commitment to providing free healthcare, citing trauma centers and the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) as examples of public service initiatives.

Qaim ALli Shah recalled his tenure, noting that significant funds had been allocated to health and education under the oversight of Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, underscoring the government’s focus on public welfare.

Principal Professor Dr Javed Ahmed Phulpoto described the convocation as a landmark event, celebrating the achievements of students and the growth of the institution. Six graduates were awarded gold medals and 14 received silver medals in recognition of their academic excellence, reflecting the high standards maintained by the college.
The event also drew representatives from the Peoples University of Medical and Health Sciences, highlighting the collaborative spirit within Sindh’s medical education community. Officials said the ceremony was not only a celebration of academic success but also a reaffirmation of the values of service, professionalism, and ethical responsibility that the college seeks to instil in its graduates.
Graduates expressed optimism about their future roles in Pakistan’s healthcare sector, with many pledging to contribute to public hospitals and community health initiatives, reinforcing the message of service and accessibility emphasized during the convocation.
