KARACHI: The Karachi chapter of the Pakistan Cardiac Society announced its office-bearers for 2026, setting out a new leadership team, under the leadership of Dr Akram Sultan, tasked with steering one of the country’s leading professional bodies in cardiovascular medicine.
The society, which has played an active role in shaping debate around cardiac care in Pakistan, said the newly elected representatives would oversee its academic, advisory and advocacy work. In recent years, the Karachi chapter has taken part in national and regional medical conferences, workshops and training sessions for clinicians, and offered expert recommendations to public health authorities on policies affecting cardiovascular treatment and prevention.
Dr Akram Sultan was named chapter coordinator, a role that places him at the helm of strategic planning and external engagement. Dr Riffat Sultana assumed the position of chapter secretary, responsible for administrative oversight and coordination of academic activities, while Dr Mustajab Mujtaba took charge as treasurer.
The council brought together a broad cross-section of senior cardiologists and medical academics from across the city. Among them were Prof Mansoor Ahmed, Prof Bashir Hanif, Prof Khan Shah e Zaman, Prof Khalida Soomro, Prof M Nawaz Lashari, Prof S Zahid Jamal, Prof Sultana Habib, Prof S Zahid Rasheed, Prof Abul Rasheed Khan and Prof Qaiser Jamal. They were joined by Dr Aliya Kemal Ahsan, Dr Tariq Masood, Dr Sajid Ali Khan, Dr Shamim Siddiqui, Dr Khalid Iqbal Bhatti, Dr M Rehan Omar Siddiqui, Dr Osman Faheem, Dr Kaleemullah Sheikh, Dr Bella Khan, Dr Khalid Ahmed Khalil, Dr Asadullah Khan Soomro, Dr Beenish Imam, Dr Nehrish Patel, Dr Lachman Das Soni, Dr Malik Hameedullah Khan and Dr Habiba Hyder.
Officials associated with the chapter said the new team would continue to prioritise professional development, research collaboration and public awareness at a time when cardiovascular disease remained one of the leading causes of mortality in Pakistan. The society has regularly convened scientific sessions focusing on prevention, early diagnosis and the latest interventional techniques, while also engaging with policymakers on improving access to cardiac care in both urban and rural settings.
With the 2026 leadership now in place, the Karachi chapter was expected to intensify its outreach efforts and strengthen partnerships with hospitals, universities and government departments. Members said the aim remained clear: to advance clinical standards, support practitioners and contribute meaningfully to the country’s evolving healthcare landscape.
