SUKKUR: An awareness session marking the International Day for the Prevention of Violent Extremism was held at Benazir Bhutto Shaheed University of Technology and Skill Development, bringing together students and academics to discuss tolerance, peace and community resilience.
The event, organised jointly by the student welfare office and the Society of Women Technologists and Entrepreneurs, focused on the role of young people in challenging extremist narratives and promoting social harmony.
The programme opened with a recitation from the Qur’an and a naat, followed by an introductory address by the society’s president. Hafiz Bilawal Magsi, a lecturer in Islamiyat, spoke on the academic and religious foundations of peace, while columnist and social activist Zameer Lashari shared his field experience and stressed the importance of youth engagement in building resilient communities.
A student dialogue allowed participants, particularly from the 2023 and 2024 batches, to interact with the speakers and exchange views on the challenges facing young people.
In his presidential address, the vice chancellor said the university remained committed to nurturing responsible citizens and promoting an inclusive environment. The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks from the adviser on student affairs and the presentation of shields to the guest speakers.
