GILGIT: The district administration has established 40 relief counters and activated seven complaint cells across the city to maintain price control and facilitate citizens during the holy month of Ramadan.
Assistant Commissioner Gilgit, Captain (R) Adil Ali, said the measures are aimed at curbing profiteering and ensuring the availability of essential commodities at officially notified rates. The complaint cells have been set up in Jutial, Kalma Chowk, Kashrote, Zamir Abbas Chowk, Shaheed Millat Road, Konodas, and Puniyal Road, where municipal staff have been deployed to register public complaints.
Citizens can report issues related to overpricing of essential food items, including meat, poultry, bread, Roghni naan, vegetables, and fruits, as well as non-compliance with government price lists and artificial price hikes. In addition, an Alpha Control Room has been activated at the Assistant Commissioner’s Office to provide information and receive complaints.
The Assistant Commissioner said strict action would be taken against violators, including fines and legal proceedings where necessary. He added that market inspections, price checks, and surprise visits would continue throughout Ramadan to ensure price stability and administrative oversight.
In a public message, Captain (R) Adil Ali urged traders to refrain from unfair profiteering and hoarding, and to strictly adhere to official price lists to avoid causing hardship to fasting citizens. He also appealed to the public to cooperate with the district administration and report violations to ensure prompt action.
The district administration reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining market stability and providing maximum relief to citizens during Ramadan.
