KARACHI: A judicial magistrate in Karachi’s eastern district has extended the physical remand of nine suspects arrested in an illegal call center case by three days, directing the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) to produce them before the court on November 10.
The NCCIA produced the suspects before the court after their previous remand expired. The investigating officer requested a further 12 days of physical remand, saying the investigation was still incomplete. He told the court that more suspects were yet to be arrested and the recovered devices needed to undergo forensic examination.
Defence lawyers Shahab Sarki and Jam Khizar opposed the request, arguing that all devices had already been recovered and the suspects were fully cooperating with investigators. They said further physical remand was unnecessary.
The lawyers also pointed out that bail had already been granted to 264 other suspects in the case, including 156 women and underage individuals. After hearing both sides, the court extended the physical remand by three days and ordered the suspects to be produced again on November 10. The magistrate also observed that the court would decide on the suspects’ bail applications at the next hearing.
