BEIJING: China has expressed serious concern over rising Pak-Afghan tensions, urging both countries to exercise restraint and resolve their differences through dialogue and consultation. Beijing said maintaining regional stability is in the shared interest of all neighbouring states as border hostilities escalate.
A spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry said Pakistan and Afghanistan are close neighbours, and both also share borders with China. Beijing is closely monitoring the situation and is deeply concerned about the growing conflict. The spokesperson added that China sincerely regrets the reported casualties and stressed the need for calm and diplomatic engagement.
Responding to what it described as aggression by the Afghan Taliban against Pakistan, the ministry reiterated its call for restraint and peaceful resolution. China signalled it is ready to continue playing a constructive role in easing tensions and improving relations between Islamabad and Kabul. Officials said Beijing has already been making mediation efforts through its own diplomatic channels.
China also reaffirmed its support for action against all forms of terrorism, underlining that this stance remains consistent with its broader regional security policy and opposition to extremism. The foreign ministry urged both sides to avoid confrontation and instead pursue sustained dialogue and consultation to settle disputes.
Earlier, Russia and Iran also offered to mediate between Pakistan and Afghanistan. The Russian Foreign Ministry called for an immediate ceasefire and stressed that differences should be resolved through talks rather than military escalation. Separately, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Tehran is ready to facilitate dialogue and provide assistance to promote cooperation between the two countries.
The diplomatic outreach reflects growing international concern as tensions between Islamabad and Kabul draw wider regional attention.
