KARACHI: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs Liaison Office Karachi hosted a high-profile Interfaith and Intercultural Diplomatic Iftar at the State Guest House, bringing together diplomats, consuls, business leaders, journalists, religious scholars, and civil society representatives.

The event aimed to highlight the spiritual message of Ramadan, foster interfaith dialogue, and showcase Pakistan’s positive global role. The participation of the Consul General of Oman and Dean of the Diplomatic Corps, Sami Abdullah Salim Al Khanjari, was welcomed as a reflection of strong Pakistan-Oman ties.
Addressing attendees, Director General Muhammad Irfan Soomro emphasized that global uncertainty, regional conflicts, and rising extremism make dialogue, tolerance, and mutual respect vital for sustainable peace. He cited Pakistan’s founding principles of religious freedom and equality, and highlighted Sindh’s rich Sufi heritage, particularly the teachings of Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai, as guiding messages for harmony.
Speakers underscored Ramadan’s values of patience, compassion, and social responsibility, noting their relevance in international relations. Discussions also focused on bilateral ties, trade, cultural exchange, and the media’s role in projecting Pakistan’s moderate image. Renowned artist Hameed Soomro presented a painting to Director General Soomro as a symbol of cultural harmony.
Officials including Deputy DG Sadia Gohar Khanum and Assistant to DG Maryum attended. The gathering concluded with renewed commitments to promote peace, tolerance, and cooperation, reinforcing Karachi’s global significance and Pakistan’s balanced diplomacy.
