ISLAMABAD: Petrol and diesel prices in Pakistan were increased by Rs55 per litre following a federal government revision amid soaring global oil rates and ongoing tensions in the Middle East. The new price of petrol is Rs321.17 per litre, while diesel has been fixed at Rs335.86 per litre.
Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik warned of strict action against fuel hoarders, saying Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had taken notice of reports regarding illegal stockpiling. He noted that while no immediate shortage is visible, the country is facing extraordinary circumstances, as much of Pakistan’s energy supply passes through the disrupted Strait of Hormuz. Malik added that Saudi Aramco had offered to station a large tanker in Pakistani waters to maintain a steady supply.

Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar explained that the surge in international oil prices—petrol at $106.80 and diesel near $150 per barrel—prompted the difficult decision to revise domestic rates. Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb said the government has been monitoring the situation over the past week and would hold consultations with provincial chief ministers to manage the impact.
Officials stressed that authorities are coordinating with friendly countries to stabilise the energy supply, and action against hoarders will help ensure uninterrupted distribution across the country.
