WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump has said Iran’s map may not look the same after the war, signaling the possibility of major geopolitical changes in the region.
Speaking to media aboard Air Force One, Trump said the United States is not seeking any compromise or settlement with Iran and wants leadership in Tehran that does not push the country toward war. He added that he does not want Kurdish forces to enter Iran.
Commenting on Britain’s Iran policy, Trump said the United Kingdom is considering sending two aircraft carriers to the Middle East but added that the United States does not need Britain’s support at this stage and would remember its position.
The US president also said there is no evidence that Russia is assisting Iran in the conflict. He further alleged that an attack on an elementary school in Iran was carried out by Iran itself, though he provided no proof for the claim.
Trump also predicted that global oil prices would fall sharply. Analysts, however, say the US president has repeatedly changed his stance regarding the justification for war with Iran, and his latest remarks suggesting possible changes to Iran’s map have raised serious concerns in the region.
