WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump claimed that naval mines in the Strait of Hormuz have been destroyed and once again called on allied nations to assist in keeping the vital waterway open for maritime traffic. Speaking to the media at the White House, Trump urged countries whose oil tankers pass through the strait to step forward and support the ongoing conflict.
Trump said ships laying mines in the sea had been sunk and warned that any future attempts by Iran to deploy mines would be “tantamount to suicide.” He added that the powerful US military has inflicted severe damage on the Iranian regime, and as the conflict enters its third week, Iran’s defense systems are rapidly being dismantled, reducing their attacks by approximately 90 percent.
The president also stated that Iran’s drone and missile production capabilities have been targeted, with over 100 Iranian ships destroyed. He claimed Iran’s missile-making ability has been almost eliminated, and most military and commercial targets have been hit.
Trump further said that oil pipelines and most installations on Kharg Island in the Persian Gulf have been destroyed, warning that it could take Iran at least ten years to restore its military and industrial capabilities. He predicted that oil prices in the global market would drop sharply once the war concludes.
The president also accused Iran of producing fake videos using artificial intelligence to simulate attacks on US forces. While Iran may want negotiations, Trump stated the United States is not ready for talks at this stage.
