KARACHI: The Iranian consul general in Karachi, Akbar Isazadeh, said that the Iranian nation remained united and insisted that US and Israeli ambitions of regime change would never succeed.
In a detailed interview, he described recent tensions as an imposed conflict and said Iran was exercising its right to self-defence under international law. He said Iranian forces were targeting military and strategic assets of adversaries, which he claimed were linked to US interests in the region.
Referring to Iran’s relations with Pakistan, Isazadeh expressed gratitude for Islamabad’s support, saying that Pakistan had shown solidarity at a time when many countries remained silent. He added that Iran valued its relationship with Pakistan and hoped for continued cooperation, particularly in maintaining regional stability.
He said Iran was ready to support dialogue and diplomacy, but only after what he described as a halt to aggression by the United States and its allies. According to him, any future negotiations would require mutual respect for the interests of all parties involved.
Addressing concerns about regional spillover, he said Iran did not intend to target civilians and accused its opponents of escalating tensions through the use of regional bases. He said such actions were contributing to instability across the region.
On economic issues, Isazadeh said sanctions had prevented progress on energy cooperation projects, but added that Pakistan could still engage with Iran for energy supplies. He said shipping through the Strait of Hormuz remained possible for countries maintaining agreements, including Pakistan, and that no obstruction was intended for friendly nations.
