KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah presided over a meeting at the CM House on Thursday to review the progress of the K-IV Water Supply (Augmentation) Project. The project is part of the larger Karachi Water and Sewerage Services Improvement Project (KWSSIP), which aims to address the chronic water shortages faced by the city.
During the meeting, officials provided updates on the construction and operational milestones of the K-IV project. The Chief Minister listened attentively as engineers explained the technical aspects, including the expected increase in water supply and the challenges encountered during implementation. Delays due to logistical issues and the need for land acquisition were among the key points discussed.
Shah urged the concerned departments to accelerate work while maintaining quality standards. He stressed that Karachi’s growing population required urgent measures to ensure continuous and reliable water supply. “Every day of delay affects millions of residents,” he reportedly said.
The K-IV project is designed to transport water from the Indus River to various parts of Karachi, easing pressure on existing sources and reducing dependence on tankers and groundwater. Officials highlighted that once fully operational, the project would supply around 260 million gallons of water per day to the city.
The meeting also focused on financial management and monitoring mechanisms under KWSSIP. The Chief Minister emphasized transparency and accountability, instructing authorities to ensure that resources were used efficiently.
In closing, Shah called for close coordination among provincial departments, contractors, and federal agencies. He noted that the success of K-IV was critical not only for Karachi’s water needs but also for the city’s long-term development and public health.
