GHOTKI: At least five people were killed in an exchange of fire in the katcha area of Ghotki district on Thursday, local police reported. The violence erupted amid a long-standing feud between the Jagirani and Lolai clans in the Katcho Bandi area, which has repeatedly turned deadly.
Police identified the victims as Rahib Lolai, Makoro Lolai, Mehar Lolai, Noor, and Hidayat Jageerani. Officials said tensions in the area remained high, with sporadic gunfire continuing between armed groups. Authorities warned that further casualties were possible unless the situation was brought under control.
Law enforcement teams from Katcho Bandi police were dispatched to the scene in an effort to restore order. Yet the area’s geography and history have made policing extremely difficult. The katcha region, part of the riverine forests along the Indus, is notorious as a haven for criminal gangs and fugitives. Local tribal chieftains and influential figures are often accused of providing shelter to these armed groups, perpetuating cycles of violence.
Historically, the riverine forests of Sindh and the southern belt of Punjab have served as hideouts for bandit gangs involved in kidnapping, extortion, and other violent crimes. The dense and inaccessible terrain has allowed these groups to operate with impunity, making the region a virtual ‘no-go area’ for police and other law enforcement agencies.
Officials said the continuing clashes in Ghotki were symptomatic of wider lawlessness in upper Sindh, where feuds between clans frequently erupt into deadly confrontations.
