LONDON: The UK’s new travel rules have created difficulties for dual nationals, as British citizens without a UK passport are now being stopped from travelling or entering the country. Reports said several young British nationals were stranded abroad after failing to meet the updated requirements.
According to a British newspaper, individuals holding dual nationality must now present a valid British passport when travelling. Passengers were reportedly stopped from boarding flights in countries including Denmark, Spain and Mumbai due to non-compliance with the rules.
Under the new system, travellers without a British passport must obtain Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA), a visa, or a certificate of entitlement to enter the UK. The government has made ETA mandatory for citizens of 85 countries, including the United States, Canada and France.
The UK government implemented the new ETA scheme on February 25, tightening entry requirements. Officials warned that dual nationals without proper documentation could be denied entry, marking a significant shift in the country’s immigration and border control policy.
