ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir held a conversation with US President Donald Trump on Sunday, according to a report by Financial Times, as Islamabad intensified its diplomatic efforts to help ease tensions between the United States and Iran.
The report said Pakistan was positioning itself as a key mediator in efforts to bring an end to the conflict, with senior Pakistani officials facilitating backchannel communication between Iranian representatives and US-linked figures, including Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.
Diplomatic sources indicated that talks between the United States and Iran could be held in Islamabad this week, reflecting a growing push toward dialogue and conflict resolution.
According to reports, the Iranian delegation may be led by Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, while the US delegation could be headed by Vice President JD Vance.
Separately, a report by international media, Pakistan, Turkey and Egypt have already played a role in facilitating contacts between US and Iranian officials through diplomatic channels.
The developments highlight intensified diplomatic activity aimed at reducing tensions in the Middle East, with Pakistan emerging as a potential host and facilitator for high-level negotiations between the two sides.
