ISLAMABAD: The government is considering the possibility of a smart lockdown as regional tensions rise and concerns grow over a potential fuel crisis.Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is scheduled to meet President Asif Ali Zardari to review the evolving situation and decide the country’s next steps.
The meeting is expected to be attended by senior leaders, including Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, the finance minister, and the petroleum minister.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari is also expected to participate in the discussions.Sources said the agenda includes a detailed briefing on the possible implementation of a smart lockdown to manage internal challenges and respond to external pressures.
Officials will also review Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts, including its offer to mediate in the ongoing US-Iran tensions, and assess how the country can contribute to regional de-escalation.Meanwhile, the Sindh government has already announced austerity measures.
A work-from-home policy has been introduced for Friday, and the provincial cabinet has decided to forgo three months’ salaries.
Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Memon said the provincial government would align with any federal decisions to prevent fuel shortages, adding that further measures would be taken as needed until the situation stabilises.
