KARACHI: The Nihal Hashmi has formally approved the Sindh Fisheries Amendment Bill, introducing stricter measures against illegal buying, selling, and trading of fish.
According to the Governor’s spokesperson, the amendments also target environmental violations, including pollution and unauthorized discharge of industrial waste into water bodies. The changes are intended to strengthen the fishing system and safeguard marine ecosystems.
Under the revised bill, penalties for violations have been significantly increased. Unlicensed fishing, use of prohibited nets, and illegal hunting will attract fines up to PKR 100,000, while operating a processing plant or factory without proper licensing will result in fines of up to PKR 50,000.
Officials emphasized that the amendments aim not only to regulate the fishing industry but also to promote sustainable practices and protect marine life along Sindh’s coastline. The move is expected to enhance compliance and deter environmental violations in the province.
