ABU DHABI: Eight civilians, including four Pakistani nationals, were killed and 178 others injured in a series of attacks in the United Arab Emirates, the country’s Ministry of Defence said on Sunday, as officials disclosed fresh details of the scale of the assault.
In a statement issued from Abu Dhabi, authorities said the casualties also included two Emirati soldiers and a Moroccan national affiliated with the UAE military, indicating that both civilian and security personnel were among those affected.
Officials said the country’s air defence systems had been actively engaged in repelling the attacks, successfully intercepting 16 missiles and 42 drones during the latest incidents. The ministry added that, since the escalation began, a total of 414 missiles and 1,914 drones had been shot down, suggesting a sustained and large-scale threat to the country’s airspace.
Despite the high interception rate, the attacks still resulted in casualties and injuries, highlighting the intensity of the strikes and the challenges posed by drone and missile warfare even with advanced defence systems in place.
The authorities did not provide further details regarding the origin of the attacks or the groups responsible, and no claim of responsibility had emerged at the time of the statement.
