KARACHI: A fire broke out in a commercial building on Shahrah-e-Faisal on Wednesday, prompting an immediate response from firefighting and rescue teams as authorities worked to prevent the flames from spreading.
Chief Fire Officer Humayun Ahmed said the blaze started in a room on the first floor of the building. He added that two fire brigade vehicles were initially dispatched as soon as the incident was reported, with additional support called in shortly afterwards due to the location’s sensitivity and traffic congestion.
A spokesperson for Rescue 1122 confirmed that the fire occurred near Baloch Pull, a busy stretch of the city’s main artery, where at least three fire tenders were engaged in the operation. Firefighters faced challenges accessing the site quickly due to heavy traffic, but managed to begin containment efforts without significant delay.
Officials said the fire remained confined to a single room, reducing the risk of a major escalation. However, thick smoke spread through parts of the building, raising concerns about potential suffocation hazards. Rescue teams ensured that occupants were evacuated safely, and no casualties had been reported at the time of filing this report.
Authorities said the cause of the fire had not yet been determined, and an investigation would be carried out once the situation was fully under control. Emergency services remained on-site, continuing cooling operations to prevent reignition.
The incident once again highlighted concerns over fire safety measures in commercial buildings across Karachi, particularly in high-traffic areas like Shahrah-e-Faisal, where rapid response can be hindered by congestion.
