KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has approved a major Rs30.8 billion project to modernize the province’s emergency services.
The decision was taken during a high-level meeting on emergency response, aiming to make the system more efficient and comprehensive across Sindh. CM Shah said protecting human lives and property is the government’s foremost responsibility, adding that no lapse in emergency response will be tolerated.
High-risk buildings will undergo immediate safety upgrades, and all emergency departments will be brought under a unified and autonomous authority to ensure faster, coordinated responses.
The project includes integration of Rescue 1122, purchase of modern firefighting equipment, establishment of new fire stations, and acquisition of 100 fire trucks, aerial ladders, snorcles, drones, firebikes, and all-terrain vehicles.
CM Shah said the upgraded system will enhance citizen safety, improve coordination between agencies, and reduce response times. A dedicated Rescue 1122 academy will also be set up to strengthen institutional capacity and train staff.
A five-member committee, led by the Advocate General, has been formed to oversee necessary legislation for the project. The Sindh PPP government said the plan will build a modern, integrated capability to handle all kinds of disasters.
